Wow! I finally booked the Audobon Cottage. I have saved it for YEARS as the place I wanted to take the oman of my dreams. After all, the perfect woman deserves a perfect honeymoon cottage!!! As it turned out I accidentally booked it during the kite festival so we got an added bonus attraction.
But first let me dispel any concern you might get fom the recent review that was so negative. I am a retired innkeeper who has professionally inspected inns and bed and breakfasts, My girlfriend ran an extrememly successful yacht charter and is a chef--and has a very sensitive nose and demanding palate. There were no odors in the cottage or at the Shelburne. The breakfasts were simply the best imaginable--we ate so well that we skippied lunch later on. There are wonderful old standards and specials that use local fresh mushrooms and seafoods. Simply delicious!
The word "retreat" is true. This is a beautifully appointed quiet place to commune with nature. No TV. Lots of games and puzzles if you wish to use them. And we had a doe and fawn visit every day. The bird life and watching the boats go in and out of Ilwaco and the mouth of the Columbia is great plus the best jacuzzi I ever experienced. And close to terrific restaurants. I hope to go again.
A secluded natural setting, on a bay and surrounded by woods. Extensive grounds with streams, fire pits, and loads of art. We watched the day begin and end over the bay, and enjoyed the blue herons and other wildlife. We stayed in the Audubon Cottage. There is nothing plastic about this inn, which blends nicely with its surroundings. We appreciated the attention to detail in its construction and its furnishings, which include refinished driftwood from the bay. There’s a hot tub outside and a jacuzzi tub inside. A seating area and small kitchen and bathroom are downstairs and the large bedroom and bath are upstairs. There are outside decks on both floors. Peace, quiet, beauty and plenty of good food and other services a few minutes drive away, We had a great time.
From the communication with the owners, to driving onto the property and then walking out onto the deck, we could not have been happier! Very comfortable, clean and a terrific view. My friend and I have already been spreading the word on what a wonderful find to anyone that will listen!
My husband and I were in sore need of a getaway, a place to refresh our spirits, reconnect with nature and escape the noise, turmoil and distractions of our day to day life. We found all that at China Beach Retreat, a lovely haven of tranquility near Cape Disappointment. Our stay was all that we could hope for--a lovely, well appointed , immaculately maintained room, with windows facing the bay and, beautiful antiques, well kept grounds, and the icing on the cake, an air-jet, hydrotherapy massage tub for two! I had the best night's sleep I'd had in a very long time in the comfortable bed. We enjoyed sipping wine, watching the fishing fleet coming and going from the harbor in Ilwaco, and at night the harbor lights and moon reflecting on the tranquil waters of Baker Bay. My husband and I are musicians, and the muse was there for us. The owner, Dave Campiche, was the perfect host, whose personality matched his surroundings! All in all, we could not have been happier with our choice of lodgings on the Long Beach Peninsula. I heartily recommend China Beach Retreat!
